Management Team
Norman Johnson – Founder and President
Norm Johnson is President of the Building Industry Network, directing all marketing, sales and partnership activities. Norm brings an insider's view of the building industry to the BIN offering. While growing up in a family owned construction company, Norm quickly learned which end of the hammer to hold on to. Long hours framing houses in the Seattle rain convinced him that architecture might be a more interesting career path. After graduating from the University of Washington, Norm found that architectural jobs were scarce so he began his career supervising the construction of commercial, restaurant and retail projects in the San Francisco Bay area.
He gained further understanding of the building industry when he returned to architecture as a technical designer for NBBJ's Retail Concepts group. Norm then joined the Eddie Bauer corporate staff as a design manager. He managed the design effort for well over a hundred stores in the US, Canada, Japan, and the UK including award winning premier store concepts in Chicago and San Francisco. Norm later worked as a new business development manager at DuPont Flooring Systems, selling commercial floor covering to national accounts and overseeing all aspects of installation and maintenance. This experience gives Norm a hands-on understanding of the day-to-day issues faced by vendors and service providers in this dynamic industry. Norm has been building his online sales and marketing knowledge and experience since launching his first design and construction related web directory in 1996.
